His many years experience as a collector are evidenced by his own extensive collection of Moorcroft pottery, which charts the working careers of William and Walter Moorcroft, the Phoenix years through the centenary to the present date.

He has created his own reference database, cross referencing the dates of hundreds of Macintyre and Moorcroft designs together with the dates of the different impressed marks, paper labels and signature types. This valuable resource enables him to accurately produce a date range for any piece being assessed.

Holden Wood Antiques is well known to devotees of Moorcroft and offers the largest collection of Moorcroft items for sale in the North West and regularly takes enquires and orders from around the world. John Ainscough is in tune with the daily changes in the market place and is happy to provide help, advice and a bit of history on any item of Moorcroft.
